Introduction

Medicinal plants are indispensable link between health and disease. Diligent knowledge of medicinal plants is essential for health and effective treatment. Dravyaguna consists of studying of medicinal plants which are used for disease prevention and cure.

The Department has commenced PG course from 1990 which is signified by the presence of a herbal garden consisting of different species of plants and herbs that are used to edify scholars as well as general audience about their therapeutic uses. The herbs are also utilized in preparing fresh medicines for in-patient needs of hospital. Museum is also famed part of the department.

The principal objective is to provide standard education and training to undergraduates (BAMS)students as well as postgraduates scholars (M.D.Ayu) which includes classical, rational & contemporary knowledge of therapeutic uses of medicinal plants in different diseased conditions.

Facilities in the Department

We have two well maintained herbal gardens consisting of 250 species. Many of them are QR coded for plant information to benefit students as well as general public.

Amongst them, some important species are:

  • Raktachandan (Pterocarpus santalinus Linn)
  • Sarpagandha (Rauwolfia serpentina Kurz)
  • Ashok (Saraca asoca Willd)
  • Agaru (Aquilaria agallocha Roxb.)
  • Ankol (Alangium salviifolium Linn.)
  • Chandan (Santalum album Linn)
  • Hijjal (Barringtonia acutangula Gaertn)

Department Initiative

  • Plantation drive of medicinal plants is conducted yearly.
  • Educational tours (local & out of state) are organized every year.
  • Students are guided for paper presentation and research publications.

Museum

Departmental Museum preserves wet and dry specimens for study purpose.

Laboratory

Well-equipped Pharmacognosy Lab as per NCISM norms.

Library

Departmental library includes Ayurveda and pharmacology reference books.

Audio-visual Facility

AV and WiFi facilities available for teaching and learning.

Charts

Educational charts of herbal drugs and pharmacology concepts are available.

Field Visit

Regular field visits and study tours are conducted annually.

Skin OPD

The Skin OPD provides diagnosis and treatment for skin, hair, and nail disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, fungal infections, vitiligo, and hair fall.

Patients are evaluated based on Dosha, Dushya, and disease manifestation. Treatments include Shamana and Shodhana therapies, internal medicines, external applications, diet, and lifestyle counseling.

The Skin OPD aims to improve quality of life through holistic and effective care.
